Gesshin Hayashi [12th Division 3rd Seat]
Basic Information
Name: Gesshin Hayashi
Age: 17 (Appearance) 420 (Real)
Gender: Male
Division: 12th
Seat: 3rd
Looks: Gesshin has medium length black hair, usually pushed over to the right. He wears the traditional Shinigami robes almost all of the time. He has a medium size build, some muscle but not enough to slow him down. To the on-looker he would come off as an athletic type.
Personality: Gesshin tends to be lazy. In general he avoids arguments because they seem to be a waste of time. He feeds other peoples ego’s as if it were his job. The young man understands that appeasement and a little sucking up is the easiest way to advance through the rankings. Gesshin doesn’t avoid fights, but he doesn’t start them either. If there had to be a dispute, a fight is one of the better ways to resolve it since it is quick and indisputable.

Zanpakuto Information
Zanpakuto Name: Mamoru
Zanpakuto Looks:
Zanpakuto Description: In its natural state Mamoru is a simple sword, light in weight. There is a guard over the hand that can be used to parry attacks. The blade is very fine.
Released Zanpakuto Description: Upon being released the sword transforms to a guard the length of Gesshin’s arm. It is not a normal guard, it looks like a lion. His middle three fingers slide into the top jaw, able to operate the razor-sharp teeth of Mamoru. The bottom jaw can be pulled out and reveals to be a Katar. The Katar has two blades perpendicular to the handle as a normal Katar would, and then two more that would have been the bottom teeth of the lion if left in. The left arm acts as a shield and a potential grapple. The Katar in the right arm acts as the close ranged melee weapon, and also a potential grapple. The left arm could also pack a fearsome punch, but that is not its primary purpose.
Zanpakuto Abilities
The main special ability is that if the Katar is able to grapple the enemy, then the lion’s mouth widens and reveals it’s sharp lining as it extends forward and sinks it’s teeth into the enemy.
As a secondary skill the left arm can blast balls of air. These are not very strong, but could pack a punch on a direct hit. Partial & Full Hits cause blow back effect.
Zanpakuto Release Phrase: All of that which can be conquered is yours. Prevail, Mamoru.
Released Zanpakuto Looks: It looks like a lion with a great mane that acts a guard.
Zanpakuto Spirit: The spirit is a great male lion.
Zanpakuto Realm: The realm is a clustered city that looks like everyone dropped everything and left instantly.

History:
His life in Rukongai was boring. Gesshin was a lonely spirit that did not meet many people over his years, nor did he wish to meet many people. Everyday seemed to drag on for an eternity. He had no home, and no means to obtain one. He sat alone in an alley way for most of his time. The interesting part was that he felt content with this. Anyone else would be pulling out their hair, but Gesshin could sit alone and do nothing. This went on for the better part of his lifetime, what a pathetic existence. It was one fateful day that some familiar face from the village came up to the boy and told him he was a waste of life. Such was a common expression, but in this case it was not an expression, it was fact. There was something about the term waste that got to him. It implied that his existence somehow frustrating or hindering someone else’s. How does someone find the medium between being a waste and being productive? This is what Gesshin sought to find. Something to note was that Gesshin was not an existentialist or anything of that sort. Instead he was a person that just didn’t want to be bothered by other people, which entailed him not bothering other people. He was lazy to the extent that his life’s goal was to become the perfect lazy person so long as he didn’t cause a burden.
There was not much to do in Rukongai to explore and try and find his answers. Naturally the majority of the souls sought to enter Soul Society. There was some high appeal associated with this place that sparked some interest in Gesshin. He decided to enroll in the Academy, dedicating most of his time to training. Some would speculate that he was somewhat passionate with his training, he trained when it felt right to him. Training may not even be the operative word, because that implies that he was working towards an end/accomplishment. For Gesshin it was inexplicably different.
In the academy most found that Gesshin was good at fighting. Gesshin found fighting as an efficient means to end a dispute. He came off as the quiet/dark type in class. All he wanted to do was fight or observe. Throughout his days in the Academy Gesshin never asked one question. He found himself near the top of his class. He excelled at almost everything he touched. The major problem noticed early on was his unwillingness to finish fights. When he knew he was better than the opponent he would just stop and leave. This caused him to be looked down upon. Even his classmates, who may have been spared by him, thought he was crazy. Killing seemed so futile to the boy.
Then as you would expect, one day it came down to killing a hallow or dying himself. During the battle he had followed his ordinary custom of stopping once he knew he was stronger. As a result the rest of his squad was killed as the Hallow regained strength. Gesshin was unfazed emotionally by the loss of his companions. Instead it was in that instant that he realized that in some cases, death was necessary. He finished off the Hallow and reported the story in its entirety to his superiors. They thought it was just him taking the death of his companions harshly and taking blame as usually happened. He was commended on his effort. It was shortly after this event that Gesshin was promoted.
Once he made it on a Guardian Squad he worked hard to see what it was all about. It is worth noting that his cohorts actually took a liking to him. He was a realist, and somehow that was relieving to most of his peers. He was no longer that much of a quiet anomaly. His tendencies had changed from where he was when he began the journey. In the squad he steadily ascended.

Kido Information
- Spoiler:
- 1. Restrain (塞, sai?) — Locks a target's arms in place behind their back.
4. Crawling Rope (這縄, hainawa?) — An energy rope entangles a target's arms.
9. Strike (撃, geki?) — Engulfs a target in red light, completely paralyzing them. "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat!"
30. Beak-Stab Triple-Flash (嘴突三閃, shitotsusansen?) — After using kido energy to draw out an equilateral triangle, the targets' arms and waist are pinned down and rendered immobile.
39. Arc Shield (円閘扇, enkosen?) — Summons a shield of energy to block opponents' attacks.
58. Summoning of the Tracking Sparrows (摑趾追雀, kakushitsuijaku?) — Tracks and locates any spiritual force the user focuses on. To activate it, the user must draw a circle on the ground, cut into four parts with a specific character in each. The incantation animates the circle, causing various numbers to appear within until the specific set is found. The number set seems to be a variation on longitude and latitude. "Heart of the south, eye of the north, finger of the west, foot of the east, arrive with the wind and depart with the rain."
61. Six Rods Prison of Light (六杖光牢, rikujōkōrō?) — Summons six thin, but wide, beams of light that slam into a target's midsection, holding them in place. Referred to as "Six Rod Light Restraint" in the English manga and "Six Bars of Light" in some of the games. "Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!"
62. Hundred Stepped Rails (百歩欄干, hyapporankan?) — A rod formed of energy is thrown towards the target before it disintegrates into numerous short rods which are used to pin the target to the surroundings and render them immobile.
63. Winding Binding Chain (鎖条鎖縛, sajō sabaku?) — The target is wrapped from the neck down in a thick chain.
1. Thrust (衝, shō?) — Pushes the target away from the caster.
4. White Lightning (白雷, byakurai?) — Fires a concentrated bolt of white lightning from the caster's forefinger.
31. Shot of Red Fire (赤火砲, shakkahō?, Red Flame Cannon in the English dub) — Fires a ball of red fire at a target. "Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south!"
33. Blue Fire, Crash Down (蒼火墜, sōkatsui?, Pale Fire Crash in the English dub) — Fires a column of blue fire at a target in a similar manner to 31, but over a wider area and with more power. "Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws."
54. Abolishing Flames (廃炎, haien?) — Fires a blast of purple fire that will incinerate a target completely when it makes contact.
58. Whirling Tempest (闐嵐, tenran?) — A widening tornado-like blast is fired towards the target.
63. Thunder Roar Cannon (雷吼炮, raikōhō?) — Fires a massive wave of yellow lightning at a target. "Sprinkled on the bones of the beast! Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle!"

- School. Who would opt to put themselves through such a heinous thing?
Let us run the scholarly gauntlet so we can be stripped of what we know and have that replaced with uncertainty. Nope, not his style. But.
This was supposed to be something different than just school. This was to be an experience, learning through the senses as opposed to the mundane route, books books books.
Should everything go well in this endeavor, one will find themselves a proud ninja. Nay, an adventurer. One cannot deny that such a position in society opens up a wide spectrum of opportunities for the overly ambitious to explore. Overly ambitious defines Toyo. Of course for him it may not be in the entrepreneur/pioneer spirit, it may more or less be his childish imagination.
Childish he was. There he stood in his assortment of colorful clothing put together by his mother. He couldn’t stop smiling if he wanted to, something about being here felt right to him. As his long brown hair blew in the soothing wind, the boy began to walk around the ground, striding confidently as if he owned the place. In his mind he was drawing out blueprints, trying to see if there was anything worthwhile that could be made of the building itself. Unbeknownst to him, his explorative senses would most likely factor in nicely to any ninja scenarios he may find himself in in the future.
Then without breaking stride he let out a sigh. Not one of exhaustion or discontent, more so a sigh of impatience. There was no need to prolong the inevitable, why can’t the grand adventure not begin now? Patience is one of the many key traits he lacks, but maybe it will come along as he matures. Too bad maturity seems like a distant ideal as of this moment.
Sure, to the on-looker Toyo may come off as a space-case, but to have as much going on in his head as he did would make anyone into a cloud-niner. Even though his head may be in the clouds, his overall appearance made the boy out to be approachable.
Without any provocation his expression changed from excited to curious. There could have been a multitude of reasons for such a change, but the truth was that he was questioning his own ability. Some people fail to realize that dreamers often do acknowledge themselves as human and having limits. Toyo was not completely ignorant of the danger that lied ahead, after all his uncle did lose an arm. Was this really what he wanted to spend the remainder of his childhood doing? Training to become a real shinobi?
His actions answered that question, as he broke out into dance in the middle of the road. Toyo was not the greatest dancer, he just kind of moved a lot. The fear of having to deal with the reality of being a shinobi is a risk worth it to reach the level where all the doors open for the ambitious youngster. There were just so many adventures inside of the grand adventure itself as well. No self-proclaimed adventurer could turn down such an opportunity.
Uncertainty would be his plan in entering such a world. Being the person he was he could find positives and only positives to support each and every path that he could take. So what it comes down to in the future is cost-benefit. If he were to try for ANBU he would be missing out on Med-Nin, but was there a chance that Med-Nin would provide the child with more pleasure. Toyo was never one to try and prove his intellectual worth outwardly, but without realizing it he was a very bright boy. Even so it would be gut wrenchingly hard to choose one over the other when you are a person that wants it all, not just a sample.
With every new life the world is revitalized, what was once obvious is now mysterious. There are those who choose to accept second hand knowledge as truth, and then those who must experience themselves and find their own truths. The ambitious, the curious, the oblivious. Toyo the dreamer.
