Basic Information

Name: Marin Sunagawa

Age: Appears 24 Actual age: 47

Gender: Female

Division: Squad 4

Seat: 14th Seat

Looks: Marin wears the standard Shinigami shihakusho, the inside of the robe possessing the Squad 4 insignia. Normally, her hair hangs down to about her midwaist, but she always keeps it tied in a bun on the back of her head, The access falling into a short ponytail. Her zanpakuto is carried on her right side, even though she is right handed. This is because she weilds her sword like one would a knife. The blade pointing away from the enemy when in a neutral stance, held backwards in the hand. Her hair and eyes are a jet black in colour, darker than even the robes she dawns. Her face almost always carries a stern expression across it, even when she is calm, her face gives a glare that often intimidates others.

Personality: Marin is quite the initmidating person at first glance. Her eyes and tone of voice often give an air that most people are not able to approach with ease. She talks with a heavy, commanding tone out of pure instinct, nt even realising it most of the time unless it is pointed out to her. However, she is very caring for those around her, not standing when others are being picked on. Especially those in her squad, this has been part of the reason for her nickname the Sword of the Fourth.

Although, she does have some problems mentally. She absolutely refuses to take the lead for anything. When given command of even the smallest of groups, Marin will begin to shake and become unable to make a solid decision. And once every month, Marin travels into the slums and other areas outside the Seireitei, searching for something she lost long ago. Something she needs to find to put her demons to rest.

Zanpakuto Information

Zanpakuto Name: Stilleto

Zanpakuto Looks: A standard, slightly shorter than average katana, by only a few centemeters. The hilt of the blade has a very distorted shape, with uneven jagged edges jutting out in all directions.

Zanpakuto Description: When unreleased, the Zanpakuto possesses no extraordinary abilities.

Released Zanpakuto Description: Her ability with her released weapon is Kagesochi (Shadowstep). With it, Marin becomes completely indetectable by any means. She cannot be seen, heard, smelt, tasted or felt. Even her spiritual pressure completely vanishes, making it seem like she literally vanished from existence. However, the ability will cease the moment her attack is about to connect with the enemy. Reactivating the instant after the attack.

Zanpakuto Release Phrase: Emerge and bring them to darkness, Stilleto.

Released Zanpakuto Looks: When released, Marin's sword splits into two blades, about the length of her forearm. The blades are a midnight black and there is no handle on either as one end, the flattened end, has four holes in it for the fingers to go through. The blades are held in the same fashion as her sealed form, the blades on the outside of the palm. She also recieves a black facemask that covers her face to about the mid area of her nose. Leaving only her eyes revealled.

Zanpakuto Spirit: Stilleto often appears as a being wrapped in a black cloak from head to toe. However, underneath, he dawns an assassin attire, dark clothes with a chainmail vest underneath. However, his skin is purest black and eyes a radiant crimson. His voice taking on several different tones, making it seem like one was speaking with a demon. However, his reflection is something completely different. Through the reflection on the floor, the image of something small is seen. The being is of purest white, and simply looking at it one would think it should radiate light from its very being. However, it is bound by countless black chains that seem to emerge from the cloak of Stilleto himself.

Zanpakuto Realm: Stilleto resides in a dark world nearly void of light, save for the dark blue glow eminating from some unknown source in the ground. The landscape is constructed entirely of glass, this everything in the world is reflected, Stilleto claims what is reflected is the true form of the being's heart. When Marin sees her reflection in the many jagged mirros and crystals jutting above the smooth surface, all she sees is a black mass. Swirling non-stop, barely taking human form. However, the floor which is made of the purest and clearest glass gives her no reflection. Just as the jagged ones above give no reflection for Stilleto. Over the past few years, the number of mirrors above the surface has been increasing, as in the beginning there was only one, of which Stilleto first emerged. Now they had nearly erased the ground beneath them.

History and RP sample

History:

Life Arc:
Marin was born into a small household in a large city, her parent's were always on the verge of poverty, but did what they could to provide for her and her younger brother Saito, who was born four years and seven months after her. Growing up, Marin never had much. She never had the trendiest of clothes, the newest item on the market and was never considered to be a popular kid in school. But she never payed attention to these things, instead, she was known mostly for the fact that she always stood up to bullies, even if they were picking on those whom she had no aquantiance with. Thus, people started picking on her, mostly for getting in their way. To counter this, their parents, after setting aside some spare money, enrolled her and Saito into a small self-defense program held at the local youth center. The classes were instructed by a friend of her father's thus, they were able to get a discount, him knowing the family situation. The two were twelve and eight respectively. While Saito was known for his whining during the classes, he did not like getting hurt by those who were better, Marin excelled, becoming top of the class in just under a year.

A few years passed at that similar rate, nothing extraordinary happening until she reached the age of sixteen. Three days after her birthday, while her parents were on their way to pick Marin and her brother up from practise, they were caught on the tracks as a train was passing through town. The car having stalled and the two not being able to get out in time. They were then sent to live with their only known realative, their aunt on their mother's side of the family. Unfortunately, the woman was extremely sick and needed constant medical care in the hospital, so the two often found themselves home alone. Every few months, their aunt would be deemed well enough to leave the hospital for several days before having to return.

Marin, deciding that it was up to her to raise her brother, quickly went out and found a job as a delivery girl. Biking all over town on various errands. It was exhausting, but allowed to keep herself in shape. Bringing in just enough money to cover the basic living costs. And while they were used to having a minimalist life, this cut even more out of their daily routines. They continued this way for two years until Saito became old enough to have a job himself. Which was about halfway through the year Marin had turned eighteen. Costs for food, heating and whatnot began to increase that year and Marin, even with Saito's added income, was finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet. Their pile of debt slowly building on them, she saw no other choice. Having dropped out of school to work full time, she used what she believed to be her last option. Dispite the pleadings of her brother, she applied for the military.

Basic training was an all new hell to her. Beyond what she had been taught back in the martial arts classes of her youth, she was now pushed to the very edge of physical training. Taught to be a soldier. To conform. To kill. Again, just like the classes, which likely highly contributed to her above average physical finess, she graduated with top colours. Her skills she demonstrated made her a candidate for the position in the covert Black Ops division of the army. There, she further honed her skills, able to move without making a sound. To be withing a meter of the target and not allow them to be aware of her presence. She learned to hack computers and proceed with squad maneuvers. A natural they called her. A natural born killer.

She trained for three years, now twenty-one, she was given her first operation. She was to lead a covert operation into a base of anti-governmental radicals, access information on their leaders and other stronghold locations and escape without detection. If they were discovered, they were to cause as much damage as possible to make it look like a normal raid. It was supposed to be a small time operation. In and out, no questions asked. But she was wrong. Information about the raid had been leaked.

The team of four moved into the base. An old abandoned apartment building. Inside they encountered almost no resistance. Seeing only three guards in total when they reached the main computer. While the other members took point, Marin began accessing the database, the moment the information on the leaders of the movement were accessed, the computer immediately activated an alarm system. Something that could only have been there if it was known beforehand. As she began to call for her squad to evacuate, they were immediately surrounded and captured.

For two years, Marin and her teammates were beaten and tortured. Everyone of them excuted before her eyes. Finally, when she was the only one left, they decided to use her as a barganing chip. As one of their leaders had recently been arrested and was pending excecution himself. They released a video threatening to kill her if he was not released. The government replied by speeding up the date and giving him the injection three days after the message. This was met with a massive public outcry. Violation of human rights and everything. So, the radicals of the group overtook a television station and infront of a national audience, shot Marin dead from the back of her head.

When she awoke, she found herself instinctively walking home, not knowing what was going on, the past two years coursing through her mind. Especially the day of the mission. It constantly replayed itself in her mind, she couldn't help but think where she had gone wrong. Because she had failed her teammates and gotten them all killed.

Finally, after walking for countless days and nights without feeling any tinge of exhaustion, she found her Aunt's house. Looking inside the window, she sees an odd sight. It had only been two years, but inside was completely barren. There was no one, and it looked like no one had lived there for some time. She walked in through the use of the broken door in the back of the house. It looked as though it had been kicked in. There was no sign of her brother inside the building. Tears falling down her cheeks, a voice appeared behind her. She turned in time to see the hilt of a katana tap her forehead. As she was engulfed within a bright light, all she could hear from the figure was "It'll be better on the other side". Then, everything went white.

Entering the Soul Society:

Marin awoke to find herself staring at an old, worn wooden ceiling. There was no covering so the rafters were clearly visible. As she got out of bed, she noticed she was wearing an old kimono. Upon leaving the house, she found herself in a shantytown that seemed to be ripped straight from the history books. People all wore the same style of clothing she now dawned, some were running small stands, others simplybeing on their way. However, she did notice an overwhelming amount of people who simply slouched themselves against the walls of the buildings. Looking similar to people she had seen in occupied warzones. People who had lost everything and had nothing.

It was odd, being in such a place. She felt displaced, out of touch with those around her. It seemed she was in the world where souls migrate to after death. The Soul Society. Although she was in one of the more impoverished areas, a fair distance from the Seireitei, where the Soul Reapers resided. Appearantly there, they lived the life of high society, while the rest were forced into areas like this. But she didn't complain and decided to make the best of her situation. Becoming a sort of mother to the children who lived in the hut she awoke in. However, everyday she walked around the streets. Searching for her lost comrades. To apologise for everything that happened.

She slowly began becoming accustomed to this way of life. Having done it for over two years when she began to notice a change in herself. Something familiar she had not felt in a long time. Hunger. At first, it was only a small, nearly unnoticable twinge inside her, but it steadily grew over the months. Becoming more demanding as it did. She soon found herself too weak to get out of bed some mornings and had to pretend she was fine around the children as to not worry them. With their budget they could never hope to afford any food save for a single potato once a month. Which had to be divided equally among the children.

Three months later, she could not pretend anymore. And during a small street festival held once a year, she passed out right in the middle of the street as the parade was marching through. The event caused a major uproar, which luckily for Marin, created a large enough disturbance for the Seireitei to send a single Soul Reaper to calm. When he found Marin, he noticed the emerging spiritual energy and immediately took her to the Seireitei for training as a Soul Reaper.

Training in the Academy:

For the third time, Marin found herself training herself to harm others. This time through sword and spiritual arts. Seeing as she had already had training in the use of a blade, ranther than learn an entirely new style, she began combining the sword style of the Soul Society with the close combat forms of a knife. The result gave her an interesting sword style that was difficult to deal with in singles combat. Involving quick slashes that flipped the sword as well as traded hands in the middle of combat. When it came to Kidou, she accelled in the Hadou, destruction arts over the Bakudo. The memories of her instructors calling her a natural flashed through her mind, an uneasy feeling forming in her chest as they did.

The years passed by as she accelled in her classes, reaching the advanced section in only three years time. The experiences of her life still fresh in her mind highly aided in the speedy ascention. While in the advanced course, she inadvertantly attracted the attention of recruiters from Squad 2 and was placed in the Special Forces division of the academy. It was there that she learned her Zanpakuto's name, and it was a perfect one for an assassin. Stilleto, the same as the famous knife used by assassins. Her Shikai also guaranteed her a seat on the Squad. However, Marin decided that it was enough, she was not going to allow herself to be a tool of death anymore. Demanding that she be transferred out of the Special Division and be placed in the medicinal training for Squad 4 prospects.

The demand rose startling and near violent arguments throughout the council. Never in the history of the academy had someone demanded to be placed in the medical division. Everyone knew that Squad 4 was the laughing stock of the Gotei 13. Not to mention a possible 3rd seat of Squad 2 upon graduation. And while the Captain of Squad 2 was utterly opposed to the idea, eventually she was given the go ahead and transferred to the medical division. Stunning all those who were there originally, including the teacher when she came in the first day. In her eyes, a sparkle shone for that whole day. Something that had not been there in over ten years.

However, unlike the other classes she took, in the medical department, she lacked severely. Quickly falling behind and causing people to question as whether or not to pull her from the program. However, she put everything she had into learning the art of healing and just managed to graduate after the fourth year. Being placed on the Squad, albiet a low ranking seat as her healing skills are quite subpar. But, whenever she was around, people did not pick on the Squad 4 members for fear of her retaliation.

Current Day:
Now, Marin performs the duties of Squad 4. Taking care of the other Squad's domestic needs, cleaning the underground passageways and such. However, she ensures that when she is around, the members of her squad recieve their well due respect. Even some members of Squad 11 are now thanking the Squad 4 members. Although usually talking behind their backs afterwards. She still takes trips into the slums and other areas in an attempt to find her former teammates. Her memories of the times long past still haunting the corners of her mind.

RP Sample:

The sounds of rythmic scratchings and pantings echoed throughout the darkness. The winding tunnels illuminated by only a faint red glow. Countless people were lined all along these darkened halls, armed with brooms and cloths as they scrubbed away at the floors, walls and ceilings tirelessly. To them, it seemed that no matter how many times these halls were cleaned, they could never remain that way. Even though they hardly ever saw use. But that was part of the job description when it came to being on Squad Four. The squad practically given the task to uphold the other squads, but never got the thanks they deserved.

In these halls, Marin stood at a four way intersection. A meter wide broom in her hands, she scrubbed hard at a mysterious stain in the exact center of the floor. She dared not think of what it may be, but it refused to come out, no matter the amount of force she put in the broom or the shear amount of cleaning solution she poured on. In fact, since she had her attention fixed solely on the stain, she did not notice the fact the area she stood was now completely soaked and now a dangerous trip hazard.

It wasn't until one of her comrades called out to her that she snapped back to her senses. She looked over in the direction he had called out from as he literally slides across the wet surface, coming to a stop less than twenty centemeters from her. "You need to be careful when cleaning the floors. Someone could get hurt you know". He says, motioning to the layer of water carpeting the floor. And after taking a quick look around, Marin realized her mistake, turning and bowing quickly to the young man. "I'm sorry, I'm just not good at this" She quickly apologized as she looked back up to him, the man standing several feet away, a look of shock and a slight sense of fear on his face, but he quickly shook himself back to his senses, reaching his hands out to take the broom. "It's alright, it just needs practise". Slowly, stepping carefuly in the water, he shimmies closer to the stain. "There is a technique to getting stuff like this out, I'll show you".

Marin watched with calucating absorbsion as she took in every motion of the broom and the explaination of the man as the stain almost seemed to lift itself off the floor, until there was no trace left of it to be seen. He then stood back up and handed back the broom. "It all just takes practise". He said before running off, nearly slipping on the floor before Marin could properly thank him. It seemed that she still intimidated her own Squad members, but at least they seemed to be warming up to her. She began pushing the access water into small drainage lines along the walls. A small smile on her face, completely unnoticable in the dark.
